The Big Island Kona coast is paradise to the scuba diver. There are dozens of dive sites within a short boat ride from Honokohau Harbor and several more further South along the coast. The entire western (leeward) side of the island is protected from the ocean's prevailing winds and northeastern swell making it ideal for scuba diving.
The Big Island is the southernmost of all the Hawaiian Islands providing an excellent habitat for fish, coral, and of course the underwater diver. The water temperatures are coldest at 75 degrees in February and warmest in October at 82 degrees. The western side of the island has no permanent streams providing some of the best visibility within the entire Hawaiian Islands, consistently in the 100+ range.
Lava tubes, pinnacles, and swim through arches are abundant along the Kona coast. For an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life, try the Manta Ray Night Dive!
